Do Men Get Sad After Sex?

There have been lots of stories about our sex lives in the news this week so we’ve got a mini round-up for you of what’s being said – and being discovered!

Post-Coital Dysphoria Experienced by Men

A survey in Australia has shown that a condition previously observed in women called Post-Coital Dysphoria (PCD) has also been discovered in men. It is characterised by feelings of sadness, tearfulness or irritability after sexual encounters.

Over 1,200 men were surveyed from around the globe about the condition and a surprising 41% of respondents answered that they had experienced PCD during their life; 4% of these also claimed to experience it regularly. Sufferers can feel emotionless, empty and like they do not want to be touched.

One potential reason cited for PCD (although nothing has been proven) is that after sex and a colossal accompanying release of dopamine, levels of this important hormone subsequently fall, causing the feeling of being low.

Do People Having Affairs Keep Sleeping With Their Partners?

In some other new research, it’s been reported that two thirds of men and women having affairs are still sleeping with their main partner. One third of cheats also said they endeavoured to maintain their current sex life with their partner in order to avoid suspicion.

Furthermore, a proportion also claimed the affair made them more excited and actually have more sex with their main partner than before!

Just fifteen percent stop having sex with their partners entirely, and for most of these, sex had stopped already before the affair even started.

So if you think your other half not sleeping with you as much is a sign he or she is straying, think again!
