It’s been a few weeks since we’ve posted to the blog! The sunshine’s definitely on its way out as we head well on into September and the days are sadly getting shorter. For everyone who read our blog about the Southampton Boat show – this is now on with some fabulous boats on show and will run until September 22. On another note we came across an interesting and rather amusing article recently from Bloomberg. We all know about the male hormone testosterone – it builds muscle, libido, confidence and makes men manly, well it turns out its not as powerful as previously thought! The typical beliefs about males and testosterone levels it turns out aren’t true – it’s our female hormone oestrogen that is the real driver and – may we infer – power hormone after all. We like this theory!

The article reports on a recent study which found that oestrogen, not testosterone as previously thought is the hormone that plays the major role in the male libido. Men undergoing treatment for low testosterone levels that were receiving additional doses of the hormone were found to have decreased libido and an increase in body fat, so libido is actually controlled by oestrogen and not testosterone as previously thought.

So there we have it – the female hormone, previously thought to make men more effeminate its actually the more powerful of the two!
