Whether we’ve always been that way or whether we have a lot to thank the Fifty Shades of Gray phenomenon for – Sky News reported recently that Brits are more adventurous in the bedroom.

A Health and Science correspondent for Sky News wrote that in addition to being more adventurous men and women are having sex with more partners and further into old age too!

15,000 people took part in this study that takes place every ten years so there’s some great comparative data. Some of the more interesting findings to come from it are:

– 60% of men and 42% of women aged 65-74 are still having the odd tryst, reporting at least one romantic partner in the previous year
– Although we’re having more adventurous sex, it’s less frequent, dropping from an average 6 times a month to just below 5 times a month (the recession has been blamed for this)
– Women are having more sexual partners than they did previously, creeping up on the number of sexual partners men have; although the number of partners by both men and women over recent years has increased
– 10 years ago women had an average of 3.7 partners, now they 7.7 partners
– 10 years ago men had an average of 8.6 partners, now they have 11.7 partners
– There has been a big increase in women that have a same-sex partner too, up from 1.8% to 7.9%
– The number of men who have no problem with a one night stand has stayed constant, whereas this number has increased for women, from 5.4% to 13%

So to conclude, we’re staying healthier, living longer and enjoying ourselves for longer too! There are more same-sex female relationships than ever before and women are catching up to men with the amount of partners they have – we’re all also becoming a lot more open – great news!
